Bangladesh Floats Fresh Tender for Spot LNG Cargo

Delivery sought for Nov 25–26 window at Moheshkhali

State-run Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Company Ltd (RPGCL) has issued a fresh tender to purchase one liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo from the international spot market for delivery on November 25–26.

The cargo, estimated at 3.36 million MMBtu, will be discharged at Moheshkhali Island, with the option to use either of the country’s two floating storage regasification units (FSRUs).

RPGCL had previously invited bids for three November cargoes but failed to secure one for the 25–26 window after suppliers quoted higher-than-expected prices, a senior official said. If successful, this will be Bangladesh’s third spot LNG purchase for November.

So far, the country has procured four spot cargoes for October, three for September, and five for August. It also booked a December 26–27 shipment from Gunvor Singapore at $11.85 per MMBtu.

Alongside spot purchases, Bangladesh imports LNG from long-term suppliers QatarEnergy LNG and OQ Trading International, as well as under short-term deals.

Despite these imports, the country is rationing gas to industries and power plants amid a supply shortfall. Total output — local production plus regasified LNG — stood at 2.827 Bcf/d on September 9, against demand exceeding 4.0 Bcf/d, official data shows.
