Banking experts have stressed the need for consolidation and stronger governance to resolve the sector’s ongoing crisis, which they said stemmed from corruption and irregularities under the previous regime.
The call came at a session titled “Bank Crisis, Reforms & Regulations – The Implications on Bank Governance” on the second day of the International Conference on Business and Technology (ICBT) 2025, held at Dhaka University’s Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban Auditorium. The two-day event was jointly organised by Dhaka University and the University of Asia Pacific.
Speaking at the session, Bank Asia Managing Director Sohail R.K. Hussain, City Bank MD & CEO Mashrur Arefin, and Pubali Bank MD & CEO Mohammad Ali underscored the urgency of structural reforms to restore discipline and stability in the sector.
The session was chaired by Professor Dr Mahmood Osman Imam, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies at Dhaka University.
