Stocks tumble as DSEX sheds 81 points

Market extends losing streak to fifth session amid selling pressure

Dhaka stocks extended their losing streak for a fifth consecutive session on Sunday as investors continued offloading shares amid persistent market volatility.

The benchmark DSEX index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) dropped 81 points, or 1.53%, to close at 5,202, according to DSE data. Over the past five sessions, the key index has lost a total of 245 points.

The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) fell 19.46 points to 1,114, while the DS30 Index, comprising blue-chip stocks, slipped 34 points to 1,998.

Out of 396 issues traded, 311 stocks (78%) declined, including several blue-chip counters, reflecting broad-based selling pressure.

Turnover at the DSE inched up by 2.33% to Tk 542 crore, compared to the previous session.

Top gainers:

  • Simtex Industries soared 9.87% to Tk 26.7, hitting the day’s upper circuit.
  • Pragati Life Insurance gained 8.71% to Tk 267.
  • S. Alam Cold Rolled Steel advanced 6.07% to Tk 19.2.

Top losers:

  • Bangladesh Industrial Finance Company plunged 9.37% to Tk 2.9.
  • Peoples Leasing and Finance fell 9.09% to Tk 1.0.
  • Social Islami Bank dropped 8.51% to Tk 4.3.

Market analysts said investor confidence remains weak amid ongoing uncertainty and liquidity concerns in the capital market.
