Trading began on a mixed note on Monday as the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) opened higher, while the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) witnessed an early decline.
In the first hour of trading, the DSE’s key index, DSEX, gained 20 points, supported by modest buying in select large-cap stocks. The Shariah-based DSES rose by 5 points, and the blue-chip DS-30 advanced by 6 points.
Market breadth on the DSE was positive, with 226 issues advancing, 90 declining, and 77 remaining unchanged. Turnover during the first half of the session stood at Tk 1.40 billion, indicating moderate trading activity.
In contrast, the CSE opened weaker, with its main index falling by 78 points in early trading. On this bourse, 71 issues declined, 27 gained, and 13 remained unchanged, while turnover crossed Tk 40 million.
Market analysts said investors are showing mixed sentiment, with some taking fresh positions in fundamentally strong stocks while others remain cautious amid ongoing economic and policy uncertainties.
