In the quiet village of Madhabpasha in Barishal’s Babuganj upazila, dreams are taking a digital turn. United Commercial Bank PLC (UCB) has donated 10 computers to Madhabpasha Chandradwip High School and College under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, marking a milestone in rural tech education.
For years, the nearly century-old institution has struggled with limited resources—no modern labs, no access to computers, and few opportunities for students to explore technology. But UCB’s initiative has begun to change that.
At a handover ceremony, UCB officials presented the computers to Acting Principal Jiban Krishna Bepari, in the presence of local leaders, teachers, students, and community members. The event was filled with excitement and gratitude as villagers witnessed the beginning of a new era for their school.
“For so long, our students only read the word ‘computer’ in their textbooks — now they can finally use one,” said the Acting Principal. “This marks a new beginning in improving the quality of education in our village.”
Parents expressed relief that their children can now learn digital skills without moving to cities. “We believe knowledge and technology are the most powerful tools for social change,” said UCB representatives. “Our goal is to ensure that students in places like Madhabpasha are not left behind.”
Though the donation may seem modest, its impact is expected to be profound. The school’s students will now learn computer operations, explore online education, and develop digital literacy — vital skills for the future.
As one student summed up quietly, “I used to think only city kids could learn computers. Now we can too.”
That simple statement reflects the promise of an inclusive, tech-empowered Bangladesh — a vision UCB’s CSR initiative is helping to bring closer to reality.
