The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has introduced an Online VAT Refund Module, allowing businesses to submit refund claims digitally and receive approved amounts directly in their bank accounts.
The new system digitally links the Integrated VAT Administration System (iVAS) with the Finance Ministry’s iBAS++ platform, enabling seamless fund transfers through the Bangladesh Electronic Fund Transfer Network (BEFTN).
Under the initiative, taxpayers can now file refund claims through their regular VAT returns. Once verified and approved by the respective VAT Commissionerate, the refund will be automatically credited to their bank accounts.
The NBR said the module will eliminate the need for in-person visits to VAT offices or manual cheque collections—saving time, cutting costs, and enhancing transparency.
To use the new system, taxpayers must file refund applications via Form Mushak-9.1 through the iVAS portal, even if they had previously submitted claims manually or online that remain pending.
The NBR has already trained VAT officers and staff nationwide to support the system’s rollout.
Officials said the launch marks a major step in the NBR’s digitalisation drive, aiming to bring all tax operations under full automation to strengthen transparency and accountability.
