The Bangladesh–Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) held its 24th Annual General Meeting on Saturday in Dhaka, highlighting a year of expanded bilateral engagement and outlining an ambitious agenda for the future.
Held at a city hotel, the AGM brought together chamber members, past presidents and board directors, underscoring BMCCI’s growing role in promoting Bangladesh–Malaysia trade and investment.
Presiding over the meeting, BMCCI President Shabbir A Khan reviewed the chamber’s activities in 2025, describing the year as one of progress amid challenges. He said the AGM served not only to take stock of achievements but also to align future priorities with members’ expectations.
A key focus of the meeting was BMCCI’s role in strengthening institutional ties with Malaysia. The chamber rebuilt and deepened engagement with major Malaysian agencies, including MATRADE, MIDA and MDEC, enabling regular cooperation and market access support.
One of the year’s notable outcomes was the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Bangladesh’s Export Promotion Bureau and MATRADE during MIHAS 2025, opening new opportunities for Bangladeshi exporters. BMCCI also stepped up efforts in the halal economy, hosting the seminar “Halal Economy 360: Driving Global Growth” and projecting Bangladesh’s export potential to Malaysia at $7–8 billion by 2030.
The chamber also marked a strategic entry into the semiconductor sector. BMCCI facilitated landmark MoUs with Malaysia’s MIMOS and the Advanced Semiconductor Academy, paving the way for training Bangladeshi engineers in integrated circuit design and semiconductor innovation. These agreements were witnessed at the highest level and were described as the first government-to-business MoUs of their kind in more than five decades of bilateral relations.
Looking ahead, the president announced that BMCCI will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2026 with year-long programmes, including the unveiling of a commemorative logo. He said the chamber aims to further expand cooperation into high-value sectors while strengthening its position as a trusted platform for bilateral business.
“BMCCI is now recognised at home and abroad as one of the leading joint chambers in Bangladesh,” he said, adding that unity and determination would remain key to sustaining momentum.
Secretary General Md Motaher Hoshan Khan presented the Annual Activity Report 2025, detailing the chamber’s initiatives over the year. During the discussion, former presidents Syed Almas Kabir and Syed Moazzam Hossain praised the current leadership for elevating BMCCI’s profile and opening new avenues of cooperation.
The AGM concluded with the approval of audited accounts and the appointment of auditors for 2026.
