Elections to the Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) will be held on January 15, sparking growing enthusiasm among local traders ahead of the biennial polls.

Business leaders in the region say voters are keen to exercise their franchise and influence the future direction of the chamber at a time of evolving economic challenges.

Independent presidential candidate Abdul Awal Khan Chowdhury Jyoti, contesting with the symbol ‘Peacock’, said he has been involved in business since 1966 and is also active in the Bangladesh Petrol Pumps Owners Association.

Outlining his agenda, he said that if elected, he would work to ensure traders have a direct voice in government policy-making. He also pledged to foster a more business-friendly environment for traders and entrepreneurs in the region.
