Bangladesh’s stock markets closed higher on Monday as strong buying interest in the opening hour carried through the entire session, lifting key indices and boosting turnover.
At the Dhaka Stock Exchange, the benchmark DSEX index advanced by 56 points. The Shariah-based DSES rose 14 points, while the blue-chip DS30 added 25 points.
Market breadth remained firmly positive, with prices of 268 listed companies rising against 72 decliners, while 54 issues ended unchanged.
Turnover at the DSE jumped by more than Tk 100 crore to Tk 593 crore, up from Tk 474 crore in the previous session, indicating improved investor participation.
In the block market, shares of 27 companies worth Tk 32 crore were traded. Grameenphone dominated the segment, accounting for the highest single block trade valued at Tk 10 crore.
Khan Brothers PP Woven Bag Industries Limited topped the gainers’ list at the DSE, climbing nearly 10 per cent, while Prime Finance & Investment Ltd slipped about 10 per cent to become the day’s worst performer.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange also ended the day in positive territory. Its benchmark CASPI index rose by 111 points.
Of the traded issues, 118 advanced, 36 declined and 26 remained unchanged. Total turnover at the CSE increased to Tk 12 crore from Tk 7 crore in the previous session.
S Alam Cold Rolled Steels Limited emerged as the top gainer at the port city bourse with a 10 per cent rise, while Alltex Industries Limited fell 10 per cent to lead the losers.
