The indefinite strike at Chattogram port was withdrawn early Monday after the interim government announced it would not move forward with handing over operations of the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) to UAE-based DP World.
The Chittagong Port Protection Struggle Council suspended the strike around 12:30am, clearing the way for normal port activities to resume. One of the council’s coordinators, Md Ibrahim Khokon, confirmed the decision shortly after the government’s announcement.
The strike had begun earlier on Sunday, disrupting port operations as protesters pressed four demands. Chief among them was the cancellation of the proposed lease of the NCT to a foreign operator.
With the government backing away from the deal, the council said its immediate objective had been met, prompting the withdrawal of the work stoppage.
