Stocks extended their losing streak for a second straight session on Tuesday, with most shares closing lower on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) amid a slight drop in turnover.
On the third trading day of the week, the benchmark DSEX index fell 18 points. The Shariah-based DSES index shed 1 point, while the blue-chip DS30 index declined 9 points.
Market breadth remained firmly negative. Of the issues traded, 238 declined, 131 advanced and 27 closed unchanged.
Turnover eased but remained above the Tk 12 billion mark for the third consecutive session. Total transactions stood at Tk 12.22 billion, down from Tk 12.57 billion in the previous session.
In block trades, shares worth Tk 170 million changed hands across 40 companies. Fine Foods Limited led the segment with Tk 15 million in turnover.
Among individual stocks, AB Bank PLC topped the gainers’ list on the DSE, rising nearly 9.5 per cent. In contrast, Bay Leasing and Investment Limited fell about 9.5 per cent to become the worst performer.
The downtrend also spilled over to the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), where the CASPI index dropped 13 points.
At the port city bourse, 110 issues declined, 94 advanced and 27 remained unchanged. Turnover, however, rose to Tk 210 million from Tk 130 million a day earlier.
Prime Finance and Investment Limited emerged as the top gainer on the CSE with a 10 per cent rise, while ICB AMCL First Agrani Bank Mutual Fund lost 10 per cent to finish as the worst performer.
