Recently, on July 18, a photo card designed with the branding of the news media Kaler Kantho was circulated on social media, claiming to quote the Prime Minister and Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Tareq Rahman, with the headline: “The July fighters are more important to me than even Major Zia because the July fighters are my new creators.”

According to the investigation by the Rumor Scanner team, Tareq Rahman did not make the comment with the headline “The July fighters are more important to me than even Major Zia because the July fighters are my new creators”, and Kaler Kantho never published any photo card with such a headline. Rather, the discussed photo card was created by editing a different photo card from Kaler Kantho using digital technology.
At the start of the investigation, observing the photo card revealed that it bore the Kaler Kantho logo and listed the date of circulation as “January 18, 2026.” Following this, a review of the media outlet’s Facebook page and website found no such photo card published on January 18 or any other date.
However, a photo card was found on Kaler Kantho’s Facebook page dated January 18, claiming Tareq Rahman’s comment: “Those martyred and injured in the July movement are also considered freedom fighters. In 1971, the country’s freedom fighters gave their lives and made sacrifices to achieve independence. Similarly, the fighters on the 24th fought to protect independence and sovereignty.” Another photo card with the same design and date was also found.
Observing this photo card shows that, aside from the headline, all other elements match the circulated photo card. While the original Kaler Kantho photo card carried the sentence: “Those martyred and injured in the July movement are also considered freedom fighters. In 1971, the country’s freedom fighters gave their lives and made sacrifices to achieve independence. Similarly, the fighters on the 24th fought to protect independence and sovereignty: Tareq Rahman”, the circulated photo card replaced it with: “The July fighters are more important to me than even Major Zia because the July fighters are my new creators: Tareq Rahman.”
In other words, the circulated photo card was created by editing either of the two original Kaler Kantho photo cards.
Therefore, the photo card circulated in the name of Kaler Kantho claiming that Tareq Rahman said “The July fighters are more important to me than even Major Zia because the July fighters are my new creators” is edited.
