DSE Market Cap Jumps by BDT 8,327 Crore

Benchmark indices rally for second straight week after national polls, though turnover slips

Market capitalisation at the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) rose by BDT 8,327 crore last week, extending gains for a second consecutive week following the 13th National Parliament election.

More than three times as many issues advanced as declined. Of the traded securities, 274 gained, 83 fell and 32 remained unchanged, meaning 70.44% of listed companies posted price increases.

At the close of the week, DSE’s market capitalisation stood at BDT 7,18,364 crore, up 1.17% from BDT 7,10,037 crore a week earlier.

The benchmark DSEX index climbed 134.34 points, or 2.46%, while the DSE-30 Index rose 3.41% and the DSE Shariah Index advanced 1.93%.

However, average daily turnover declined 30.97% to BDT 724.86 crore.

City Bank led turnover, accounting for 6.26% of total trades, followed by Olympic Industries and BRAC Bank. Other active stocks included Robi, Orion Infusion, Summit Alliance Port, Square Pharmaceuticals, Eastern Bank and Jamuna Bank.
