The government has decided to keep import and export activities running on a limited scale at customs houses and stations across the country during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr holidays to ensure uninterrupted trade.
According to an official notice, customs authorities will continue processing trade-related activities from March 17 to March 23, except on the day of Eid.
The directive came after a request from the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, which urged the government to keep customs operations active during the holiday period to maintain the flow of international trade, particularly for export-oriented industries.
Officials said the decision is aimed at preventing disruptions in supply chains during the extended holiday period and ensuring smooth trade operations.
Under the directive, customs authorities have been asked to take necessary measures so that import and export-related services remain operational on government and weekly holidays within the specified timeframe.
Maintaining limited customs services during the holidays will help exporters and importers complete shipment procedures, clear goods and continue production activities without delays, officials of the National Board of Revenue said.
The move is expected to ease pressure on exporters by allowing cargo handling, documentation and clearance processes to continue during the Eid holiday period.
