Import and export activities will continue at customs houses across the country during the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays to ensure uninterrupted trade despite the closure of government offices.
The directive has been issued by the National Board of Revenue, instructing customs authorities to keep customs houses and excise stations open on a limited scale during the holiday period, except on Eid day.
Under the order issued on Tuesday, customs commissioners have been asked to take necessary measures so that import and export operations can continue during public and weekly holidays.
As a result, trade-related processing will remain operational from March 17 to March 23, excluding the day of Eid.
The arrangement will also apply to major trade gateways, including the Chittagong Port, to ensure smooth cargo handling and customs clearance.
Earlier, the government extended the Eid holiday to seven days through an executive order. The circular declared an additional public holiday on March 18 between Shab-e-Qadr and the previously scheduled Eid-ul-Fitr holidays.
Bangladesh is expected to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on March 21, subject to the sighting of the moon.
