Banks set new hours amid energy-saving drive

Offices open 10am–5pm, transactions allowed until 3pm under austerity measures

Written by The Banking Post

Bangladesh Bank has revised the office and transaction hours for all scheduled banks and non-bank financial institutions (NBFIs), effective from Sunday, as part of the government’s energy-saving measures.

According to separate central bank notifications, bank and NBFI offices will now operate from 10:00am to 5:00pm, while customer transactions will be allowed from 10:00am to 3:00pm from Sunday to Thursday.

However, branches and service points located at seaports, land ports and airports will continue to operate round the clock in line with existing directives.

The revised schedule follows the government’s austerity steps announced on April 2, which include reduced office hours and early closure of shopping malls and markets to cope with the ongoing energy crisis triggered by the Middle East conflict.
