Gold prices in Bangladesh surged sharply on Wednesday, with the rate of 22-carat gold rising by Tk 6,590 per bhori, driven by higher prices of pure gold in the local market.

The new rates, set by the Bangladesh Jewellers Association, took effect from 10:00am, pushing the price of 22-carat gold to Tk 2,52,409 per bhori.

Other categories also saw significant increases. The price of 21-carat gold rose by Tk 6,299 to Tk 2,40,920 per bhori, while 18-carat gold climbed Tk 5,365 to Tk 2,06,511. Traditionally processed (sanatan) gold increased by Tk 4,374 to Tk 1,68,195 per bhori.

The latest hike comes just two days after a price cut on April 6, following a series of earlier increases. This year alone, gold prices have been revised 53 times—rising on 31 occasions and falling 22 times—reflecting heightened volatility in the domestic market.

Silver prices also moved upward in tandem. The price of 22-carat silver increased by Tk 350 to Tk 5,890 per bhori. Rates for 21-carat, 18-carat, and traditional silver now stand at Tk 5,599, Tk 4,782, and Tk 3,616 per bhori, respectively.

So far in 2026, silver prices have been adjusted 32 times, with more upward revisions than cuts, mirroring the broader trend in precious metals.
