The government has begun work on a National Tourism Master Plan to guide the sector’s development in a structured and sustainable way.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman told Parliament that the initiative is being led by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, reflecting a broader commitment to expand the country’s tourism potential.
He said special emphasis is being placed on preserving the natural beauty of Kuakata while promoting planned tourism development under the upcoming framework.
Alongside the master plan, the government is conducting a feasibility study for a project to develop basic facilities at Kuakata in Patuakhali and the Patenga Sea Beach–Anwara coastal belt in Chattogram.
The prime minister also said an Action Area Plan is being prepared by the Ministry of Housing and Public Works to implement the Payra-Kuakata Comprehensive Plan, with a focus on eco-tourism.
The plan will cover seven upazilas surrounding Kuakata—Galachipa, Kalapara, Rangabali, Barguna Sadar, Patharghata, Amtali and Taltali—aiming to integrate tourism with regional development.
He noted that the tourism components of the plan will be implemented by the aviation and tourism ministry, adding that once finalised, the initiatives are expected to accelerate tourism growth in the region.
