Bangladesh Lamps Limited posted a sharp turnaround in the January–March quarter, with profit surging 142% year-on-year to Tk 2.73 million, driven by higher sales and improved cost efficiency.
Earnings per share rose to Tk 0.26 in the third quarter of FY26, up from Tk 0.11 a year earlier, the company said in a stock exchange filing. Revenue grew more than 11% to Tk 512 million, supported by strong demand for LED tube lights and electrical accessories.
Sales of LED tube lights increased 13% year-on-year, while electrical accessories jumped 41%, reflecting robust market demand. A new production line for plastic components also contributed to revenue growth.
At the same time, operating expenses dropped 15% to Tk 71 million, helping boost profitability. The company said the combined impact of higher sales and lower costs drove the strong quarterly performance.
Despite the earnings jump, the stock edged down 0.94% to Tk 157.6 on the Dhaka Stock Exchange on Sunday.
For the nine months through March, however, the company remained in the red. It reported a net loss of Tk 8.73 million, as losses in the first quarter outweighed later gains. Still, the loss narrowed significantly year-on-year, supported by lower input costs and higher finance income.
Revenue for the nine-month period rose 12% to Tk 1.54 billion. Cost of sales accounted for 76% of total sales, slightly lower than the previous year, indicating improved cost control.
Cash flow also improved sharply, with net operating cash flow per share turning positive at Tk 3.11, compared to a negative Tk 17.32 a year earlier, helped by higher customer collections and reduced supplier payments.
The company has faced pressure in recent years, reporting losses of Tk 134 million in FY24 and Tk 65.5 million in FY25 due to high input and finance costs. Despite that, it maintained dividend payouts from retained earnings.
Founded in 1960 and later acquired by Transcom Group, BD Lamps produces a range of lighting products, including bulbs, CFLs, tube lights and accessories, marketed under the Transtec brand.
