The government says fuel supplies remain stable, with another 180,000 tonnes of diesel scheduled to arrive by April 30, as authorities step up efforts to prevent hoarding and ensure uninterrupted distribution.
Information Adviser Zahed Ur Rahman said current diesel stocks stand at 170,000 tonnes, adding that incoming shipments would further strengthen supply security.
He said enforcement drives are continuing nationwide to stabilise the fuel market and curb illegal stockpiling. Between March 3 and April 26, mobile courts conducted 12,513 drives, filed 4,285 cases and imposed fines of more than Tk 18.9 million.
During the same period, authorities recovered over 540,000 litres of diesel, along with substantial quantities of octane and petrol.
The adviser also outlined a broad public-sector recruitment plan, under which the government aims to appoint 500,000 employees over the next five years to fill vacant posts across the administration.
The hiring programme has been divided into short-term (180 days), medium-term (one year) and long-term (five years) phases. Recruitment for 2,879 vacant positions has already begun under the initial phase.
Officials said the move is intended to improve service delivery and strengthen administrative efficiency.
On the development front, the Planning Ministry approved 14 projects worth Tk 134.45 billion, including new, revised and extended schemes.
The adviser said transport fares for diesel-run vehicles have been adjusted slightly, while major infrastructure projects are progressing steadily.
In agriculture, work has begun on a national farmer database expected to include around 800,000 farmers to improve policy support and service delivery.
He also highlighted progress in the health sector, saying nearly 9.4 million children had been vaccinated under the ongoing nationwide measles-rubella campaign as of April 27.
Separately, Bangladesh has sent emergency medical supplies to Iran, while 174 Bangladeshi nationals detained in Libya have been repatriated through coordinated efforts.
The government is also preparing a new teacher transfer policy and education modernisation initiatives, including “One Teacher, One Tab” and expanded multimedia classrooms.
Zahed Ur Rahman said coordinated efforts across ministries are helping support economic growth, infrastructure development and public welfare.
