The Ministry of Land has urged landowners to pay their land development tax online through the government’s designated portal, saying the digital system makes the process easier, more transparent and more secure.
In a public message, the ministry encouraged citizens to use land.gov.bd to pay their land development tax from home instead of visiting land offices.
A senior ministry official said the online payment system is part of the government’s effort to build a smart and transparent land management system while strengthening the security of land ownership.
To pay the tax online, landowners must first register on the portal. After registration, they can submit their khatian and jot information, calculate the payable tax and complete the payment through mobile financial services or bank cards.
The ministry said paying land development tax online also helps safeguard ownership records.
It has also instructed landowners across the country to clear their outstanding land development taxes on time to avoid penalties.
Under existing rules, unpaid taxes at the end of the fiscal year may be subject to interest on the outstanding amount. Bangladesh’s fiscal year ends on June 30.
The ministry said the online system eliminates the need to visit union land offices or stand in long queues, saving both time and money. It added that digital tax collection would improve transparency and reduce the role of middlemen in land-related services.
