The government has decided to create a nationwide database of entrepreneurs in the fisheries and livestock sectors to support better policymaking, improve service delivery and promote sustainable growth.
The announcement came on Wednesday when State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salahuddin Tuku addressed a virtual meeting with divisional directors of the Department of Fisheries and the Department of Livestock Services at the secretariat.
He said officials at the divisional, district and upazila levels would jointly collect information to prepare a comprehensive database of farmers and entrepreneurs across the country.
“The database will help identify problems faced by entrepreneurs and enable the government to formulate effective solutions based on accurate information.”
After the database is completed, the ministry plans to hold consultation meetings with farmers and entrepreneurs in different divisions to gather firsthand feedback on their challenges, opportunities and policy needs.
The state minister said the initiative would help formulate practical policies and action plans for the long-term development of the two sectors.
He also highlighted the role of educated entrepreneurs in promoting commercial and science-based farming.
“Educated entrepreneurs are more likely to manage farms in a planned manner and use fertilisers, feed and other inputs efficiently according to actual requirements. This can help reduce unnecessary costs and increase profitability.”
He said the fisheries and livestock sectors remain a government priority because of their contribution to food security, employment and rural economic growth.
The minister directed officials to complete the database promptly by collecting accurate information from farmers and entrepreneurs across the country.
The meeting was attended by Additional Secretaries Md Imam Uddin Kabir and Syeda Nowara Jahan, Department of Fisheries Director General Dr Md Khaled Konok, Department of Livestock Services Director Dr Md Boyzar Rahman, and divisional directors of the two departments.
