Bangladesh Bank Governor Md Mostaqur Rahman has said the mandatory use of Bangla QR will make financial transactions faster, easier and more secure while reducing the risks associated with carrying cash.
Speaking at the prize-giving ceremony of the Bangla QR Reels Making Competition at the central bank headquarters on Monday, the governor said the universal QR payment system would also help eliminate the inconvenience caused by counterfeit and damaged currency notes.
“The world is now utilizing modern digital technologies for financial transactions. We are starting with Bangla QR, and we are optimistic that the country will adopt even more state-of-the-art technologies in the future.”
He noted that Bangla QR became mandatory from July 1, 2026, and said Bangladesh Bank has already instructed all banks and mobile financial service (MFS) providers to ensure customers can use the platform seamlessly.
The central bank organised the reel-making competition to raise public awareness and encourage the wider adoption of Bangla QR for everyday transactions.
The governor handed prizes to the competition’s top 10 winners.
The event was attended by Bangladesh Bank deputy governors, the head of the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU), executive directors, directors and other senior officials.
