Throughput Rises 4.02% to 3.2 Million TEUs; Cargo Handling and Vessel Calls Also Show Robust Growth

Chittagong Port closed the 2024–25 fiscal year with a new milestone, handling over 3.2 million TEUs—its highest-ever annual container volume. This performance marks a 4.02 percent rise from FY24, achieved despite multiple rounds of NBR staff protests and ongoing global uncertainties.

Expert and Authority Insights

Chittagong Port Secretary Md Omar Faruk hailed the record as “a testament to the dedication of all officers, employees and stakeholders.” He noted that, in the absence of the customs strike and related disruptions, throughput could have been even higher.


Chittagong Port’s latest figures reinforce its status as Bangladesh’s pivotal maritime hub, sustaining growth in trade flows and underpinning the country’s broader economic ambitions.
