Although notable progress was made in the second round of trade talks between Bangladesh and the United States, several key issues remain unresolved, according to Golam Mortoza, Press Minister at the Embassy of Bangladesh in Washington DC.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Mortoza said both sides agreed that further internal, inter-ministerial consultations would be needed before moving to the next phase of negotiations. He added that the upcoming round of talks is expected to be scheduled soon and may involve both virtual and in-person discussions.

The three-day negotiation round concluded yesterday with agreements reached on multiple points. However, Mortoza acknowledged that some areas still require additional deliberation.

“Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin and National Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman remain hopeful of a positive resolution within the anticipated timeframe,” he said. “Nonetheless, no final outcome can be confirmed until a formal agreement is signed.”

Commerce Adviser Bashir Uddin, along with senior ministry officials, is set to return to Dhaka today. Mortoza noted that the delegation may return to Washington for further dialogue, should it be deemed necessary.
