Bangladesh will import two cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the spot market at a combined cost of Tk 989 crore, as approved by the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase on Monday.
The Energy and Mineral Resources Division tabled the proposals at a meeting held at the Secretariat in Dhaka.
According to officials, the average price per unit of LNG stands at approximately $12 per million British thermal unit (MMBtu).
The government will procure one cargo from Gunvor Singapore Pte Ltd at a unit price of $11.97 per MMBtu, totaling Tk 503 crore.
The second shipment will be sourced from Posco International Corporation of South Korea, priced at $11.95 per MMBtu, with a total cost of Tk 486 crore.
These spot market purchases are part of Bangladesh’s broader strategy to meet rising energy demands and ensure a stable supply of natural gas amid global price volatility.
