Dhaka Stocks Extend Losing Streak to Seventh Session

The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) continued its downward trend for the seventh consecutive trading day, with the benchmark DSEX index edging down marginally on Wednesday.

The DSEX shed 1.11 points, or 0.02%, to close at 5,314.33. In contrast, other key indices posted gains — the Shariah-compliant DSES rose 0.28% to 1,155.81, while the blue-chip DS30 advanced 0.28% to settle at 2,057.16.

Turnover — a key measure of market activity — improved to Tk 704.88 crore, compared to Tk 666.51 crore in the previous session. The day saw 212,926 trades, with block transactions worth Tk 9.61 crore across 31 scrips.

Market breadth remained negative, with 121 stocks gaining, 203 losing, and 74 remaining unchanged.

Performance was mixed across segments. In the mutual fund sector, 3 issues advanced while 20 declined. The corporate bond market saw one issue advance and one decline, and the government bond market recorded a similar one-up, one-down outcome.

On the individual front, Gemini Sea Food emerged as the top gainer, soaring 9%, while SEML Lecture Equity Management Fund was the day’s worst performer, tumbling 8%.
