Eastern Bank PLC (EBL) has been recognised by Bangladesh Bank as one of the top 10 sustainable banks of 2024, a distinction that highlights its commitment to green finance and responsible banking.
The recognition was formally handed over to EBL Managing Director Ali Reza Iftekhar at a ceremony held at the central bank, where Governor Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur presented the award. Deputy Governor Nurun Nahar and Sustainable Finance Department Director Chowdhury Liakat Ali were also present, alongside senior officials and guests.
“This recognition will motivate us to further advance green financing, climate risk management, and eco-efficient banking; reinforcing our commitment to a low-carbon, inclusive future for Bangladesh,” said Mr. Iftekhar.
The central bank’s sustainability rating is based on banks’ performance in areas such as climate risk management, environmental financing, and sustainable operations, aimed at encouraging financial institutions to play a greater role in building a greener economy.
