The government has approved the import of three liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes from the United Kingdom at a total cost of Tk 1,442 crore, officials said. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Public Procurement Advisory Committee held at the Cabinet Division, chaired by Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed.

Under the approval, Bangladesh will purchase the 42nd, 43rd, and 44th LNG cargoes via international quotations on the spot market from Total Energies Gas & Power Limited, UK.

The 42nd cargo, scheduled for October 19–20, 2025, will be procured at a rate of USD 11.44 per MMBTU, costing approximately Tk 480.68 crore. The 43rd cargo, set for October 6–7, 2025, will cost USD 11.34 per MMBTU, amounting to Tk 476.48 crore. The 44th cargo, scheduled for October 28–29, 2025, will be procured at USD 11.54 per MMBTU, with a total cost of Tk 484.88 crore.

The purchases follow the Public Procurement Rules, 2008, and aim to ensure a steady LNG supply for Bangladesh amid rising energy demand.

Officials noted that these spot-market procurements are part of the government’s strategy to maintain energy security while leveraging competitive international pricing.
