Bangladesh Bank is leading efforts to establish a Tk25 crore fund to support the families of those killed and individuals injured during the July 2024 mass uprising.
The initiative was announced following a high-level meeting at the central bank on 8 July, chaired by Governor Ahsan H Mansur and attended by managing directors from all commercial banks.
According to sources, BB will contribute Tk14 crore from its own reserves. In addition, 11 banks—identified for their strong performance across key financial indicators—have agreed to contribute Tk1 crore each, pending board approvals.
Prior to the main meeting, Governor Mansur met with the MDs of the selected banks to personally request their support, which they unanimously endorsed.
The fund will be directed toward medical treatment and welfare programs for those affected by the events of the uprising, underscoring the financial sector’s commitment to social solidarity.
