The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has reduced the price of jet A-1 fuel for September, easing costs for both domestic and international flights.
From Wednesday midnight, international carriers will pay US$0.6333 per litre, down 2.59% from August, while domestic airlines will pay Tk 96.09 per litre, a 3.54% cut.
The adjustment was made considering factors such as the Platts benchmark, the US dollar exchange rate, settlement rates of letters of credit (LCs) of Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC), diesel price movements, and changes in transport costs of tank lorries and coastal tankers.
This marks the fourth fuel price revision by BERC since it assumed the responsibility from state-run BPC, which previously set rates following directives from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division.
Bangladesh imports about 600,000 tonnes of jet A-1 fuel annually to meet demand from local and international carriers, while some local petrochemical firms also contribute through refining condensate.
