Biman Bangladesh Airlines has posted a record profit of Tk 9.37 billion in the 2024-25 fiscal year—its highest since the airline’s inception in 1972.
The state-run carrier also logged revenues of Tk 116.31 billion, surpassing the Tk 100 billion mark for only the second time in its history. The previous highest profit was Tk 4.4 billion in FY22.
During the year, Biman carried 3.4 million passengers, transported 43,918 tonnes of cargo, and achieved a healthy cabin factor of 82 percent. January 2025 saw the airline sell the highest number of tickets in a single month, reflecting growing market demand and passenger confidence.
Biman currently operates a fleet of 19 aircraft, including six Dreamliners (four Boeing 787-8s and two 787-9s), after returning two leased planes. It has also expanded its revenue sources through cargo services, ground-handling, and catering for both its own flights and several foreign airlines.
Founded in 1972 with just Tk 19 million in revenue, Biman has since evolved into a competitive regional carrier. It became a public limited company in 2007 and has earned a cumulative profit of Tk 5.89 billion over the past 18 years.
Looking ahead, the airline plans to expand routes to new destinations, enhance digital services for passengers, and strengthen its cargo operations with the ambition of becoming a leading South Asian carrier.
