The Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) has imposed a 30-day ban on all processions, rallies, meetings, and human chains in the Chattogram port area, effective from Thursday, to ensure uninterrupted import and export operations.
The restriction was announced through a public notice signed by CMP Commissioner Hasib Aziz and published on the police’s official Facebook page.
According to the notice, the ban—enforced under Section 30 of the Chittagong Metropolitan Police Ordinance, 1978—covers key points in the port area, including Barek Building and Nimtala intersections, Number 3 Jetty Gate, Customs intersection, and Saltgola crossing.
The CMP said that processions and human chains in the area often cause severe traffic congestion, disrupting the movement of goods and hampering port activities—an outcome the notice described as “seriously detrimental to the national economy.”
Describing the Chattogram port as the heart of the economy, the notice said it handles the majority of Bangladesh’s imports and exports. Around 5,000 to 6,000 vehicles travel through the port area every day, carrying daily essentials, industrial raw materials, and export goods.
The police stressed that maintaining smooth traffic flow in the area is essential to protect national economic interests and prevent disruptions to trade logistics.
