The Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) has signed a 30-year concession agreement with Denmark-based APM Terminals to develop and operate the Laldia Container Terminal under a Public-Private Partnership arrangement.
The signing ceremony took place on Monday at the Intercontinental Hotel in Dhaka, attended by Shipping Adviser Brigadier General (Retd) Dr M. Sakhawat Hussain as chief guest. Senior Danish officials, including the State Secretary for Trade and Investment and the Danish ambassador, were also present. The event was chaired by the Chief Executive Officer of the PPP Authority, Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun.
Speaking at the ceremony, Sakhawat Hussain said the project would create significant employment opportunities once operational.
“After completion, many young and educated Bangladeshis will find new job opportunities,” he said.
He added that Bangladesh has a strong and skilled workforce, with many citizens already contributing to industries abroad, especially in Europe and the United States.
The Laldia Container Terminal is expected to enhance port capacity, improve logistics efficiency, and support the country’s growing trade needs.
