The Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) has launched maintenance dredging of the Karnaphuli River to ensure smooth navigation and keep the port channel operational.
CPA Secretary Omar Faruk said the authority earlier completed capital dredging of the river and is now carrying out regular maintenance. “The waterlogging issue in the port city has been resolved by the CPA. We are implementing drainage works in line with new regulations, including inspection and canal control,” he added.
Officials said the ongoing dredging will maintain the water flow in rivers, canals, and streams, while removing waste and debris. Modern equipment, including a newly deployed Grab Dredger, is being used for the operation.
