The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) posted its highest turnover of the year on Sunday as renewed investor interest drove trading past Tk 14 billion, with the key index crossing the 5,600-point threshold.
Turnover jumped to Tk 14.41 billion, up from Tk 13.38 billion in the previous session, and surpassed the earlier high of Tk 12.96 billion recorded on September 3.
The DSEX, the benchmark index, gained 17 points to close at 5,636 after briefly touching 5,650 during the session. The index last crossed 5,600 on August 3 before slipping amid market volatility.
Market momentum has been strong in recent weeks, with daily turnover consistently exceeding Tk 10 billion since August 24, except for a brief dip on August 27. Market capitalisation stood at Tk 7.27 trillion at the close.
Of the 400 issues traded, 248 advanced, 127 declined and 25 remained unchanged.
Engineering stocks topped the turnover chart with Tk 1.57 billion, followed by pharmaceuticals and chemicals at Tk 1.44 billion, and insurance at Tk 1.43 billion.
