The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved 12 development projects involving a total investment of Tk 71.50 billion, all financed from government funds.
The approvals came at ECNEC’s fifth meeting of the current fiscal year (FY26), held on Monday at the NEC Conference Room with Chief Adviser and ECNEC Chairperson Dr. Muhammad Yunus in the chair.
Of the approved projects, eight are new, two are revised, and two received time extensions without any increase in cost, according to a Planning Ministry release.
Among the major projects, two aim to improve rural infrastructure in Manikganj (Tk 450 crore) and Satkhira (Tk 1,930 crore) districts under the Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Ministry.
The Agriculture Ministry will implement a Tk 164.94 crore project to improve minor irrigation systems in haor areas of Kishoreganj and Netrokona, while the Education Ministry received approval for developing Gazipur Agricultural University (Tk 567.29 crore) and establishing engineering colleges in four divisions (Tk 394.84 crore).
The Health and Family Welfare Ministry secured three projects, including one worth Tk 1,546.45 crore to complete key family planning and health service activities.
Other notable approvals include a Tk 177.80 crore residential housing project for officers at Dhaka Cantonment, a time extension for the Kalia Bridge construction, and expansion of the BSCIC Industrial Park in Tangail.
Senior advisers, including those overseeing planning, finance, law, home affairs, industries, power, and health, attended the meeting along with top government officials.
The ECNEC was also briefed on nine other projects earlier approved by the Planning Adviser.
