Bangladesh has strengthened its global leadership in sustainable apparel production, with five more garment factories receiving the prestigious LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification.

With the latest additions, Bangladesh now hosts 268 LEED-certified factories—the highest number worldwide—including 114 Platinum and 135 Gold-rated facilities. The country also boasts 68 of the world’s top 100 highest-rated LEED-certified factories, underscoring its growing commitment to environmentally responsible manufacturing.

The newly certified factories are:

  • Pakiza Knit Composite Ltd (Savar, Dhaka) – LEED Platinum, Existing Buildings v4.1, 87 points
  • Fashion Pulse Ltd (BSCIC Industrial Estate, Dhaka) – LEED Platinum, New Construction v4, 87 points
  • GAVA Pvt Ltd (Dhaka) – LEED Platinum, New Construction v4, 87 points
  • Visual Knitwears Ltd (Chattogram) – LEED Gold, Existing Buildings v4.1, 76 points
  • Talisman Performance Ltd (CEPZ, Chattogram) – LEED Gold, New Construction v4, 62 points

Over the past decade, Bangladesh’s readymade garment (RMG) sector has pioneered a “green revolution”, aligning production with global sustainability benchmarks. LEED-certified factories operate under stringent U.S. Green Building Council standards, focusing on energy and water efficiency, waste reduction, and improved workplace environments.

Industry experts credit this achievement to the combined efforts of factory owners, the BGMEA, and supportive government policies that promote eco-friendly industrialization.

This milestone strengthens Bangladesh’s reputation as a responsible sourcing destination and advances its contribution to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—particularly those focused on sustainable industry, innovation, and infrastructure.
