Five New RMG Factories Earn Prestigious LEED Certification

Written by The Banking Post

Bangladesh’s ready-made garment (RMG) sector has taken another major step in its sustainability journey, with five more factories earning LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

The new additions bring the country’s total to 258 LEED-certified factories — comprising 109 Platinum and 133 Gold — solidifying Bangladesh’s position as the world leader in green garment manufacturing.

The newly certified factories are:

  • South End Sweater Co. Ltd. (Ashulia, Dhaka) – LEED BD+C: New Construction v4 – Platinum, 85 points
  • Purbani Fashion Ltd. (Belkuchi, Sirajganj) – LEED O+M: Existing Buildings v4.1 – Platinum, 83 points
  • KDS Fashion Ltd. (Nasirabad, Chattogram) – LEED O+M: Existing Buildings v4.1 – Platinum, 84 points
  • Raidha Collections Ltd. (Bhaluka, Mymensingh) – LEED O+M: Existing Buildings v4.1 – Platinum, 90 points
  • Texeurop BD Ltd. (Gazipur) – LEED BD+C: New Construction v4 – Gold, 70 points

Notably, 68 of the world’s top 100 highest-rated LEED-certified buildings are located in Bangladesh, underscoring the industry’s leadership in sustainable manufacturing.

“This achievement comes at a time when the industry is navigating significant headwinds, including the looming challenge of the U.S. reciprocal tariff,” said Mohiuddin Rubel, former Director of BGMEA and Managing Director of Bangladesh Apparel Exchange.

“Yet, despite these pressures, our entrepreneurs continue to invest in sustainable infrastructure and practices, showing extraordinary resilience and long-term vision,” he added.

Rubel emphasised that each new green factory represents more than just a certification — it stands as a testament to the sector’s commitment to reducing environmental impact, improving resource efficiency, and delivering on the promise of sustainable growth.

“The continued expansion of LEED-certified facilities underlines the RMG industry’s ability not only to survive in challenging times but to lead globally in shaping a greener, more responsible future,” he noted.
