The second International Conference on Fiber and Polymer Materials (ICFPM 2025) began yesterday at Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX). The two-day event, organized by the Bangladesh Society of Fiber Science in collaboration with International Standard University (ISU) and BUTEX, will run until Wednesday.
At the opening session, Professor Dr. M A Barik, President of the Bangladesh Society of Fiber Science and faculty member at Japan’s Shizuoka University, said the conference would play a key role in connecting Bangladesh’s textile and polymer industries with cutting-edge global research and technology.
Speakers highlighted that the textile sector remains the backbone of Bangladesh’s economy. They said the conference would not only showcase fresh research but also deliver policy recommendations, promote international cooperation, and inspire innovative product development—leaving a long-term positive impact on the industry.
The event also provides local researchers and students with an opportunity to exchange knowledge with leading global experts, opening new avenues for collaboration and innovation in textiles and polymers.
Discussions are focusing on sustainable textiles, eco-friendly fibers, electronic and medical textiles, nanofibers, recycled materials, muslin, geotextiles, carbon and glass fibers, spinning, weaving, wet processing, polymer science, fiber composites, and ready-made garments (RMG). Organizers expressed hope that these sessions would help open a new chapter in Bangladesh’s textile and polymer research.
A number of research papers and posters were presented at the event.
The conference is being chaired by Professor Dr. M A Barik. Among the distinguished participants are Professor Dr. Takeshi Kikutani, former President of the Japan Fiber Society; Professor Carolyn L. Schauer, President of the US Fiber Society; Dr. Rudolf Hufenus of Switzerland; Professor Suwabun Chirachanchai of Thailand; Professor Seeram Ramakrishna of Singapore; Professor Han Young of Korea; Professor Shuichi Tanoue and Professor Koji Nakane of Japan.
Also present were BUTEX Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Julhas Uddin, ISU’s Dean of Engineering and Technology Professor Mohammad Abul Kashem, ISU Treasurer Professor HTM Kader Newaz, Professor Dr. Mohammad Masudur Rahman of EUB, alongside researchers, academics, and industry entrepreneurs from home and abroad.
