The price of gold in Bangladesh has been increased once again. The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) announced on Tuesday that the price of the highest quality 22-carat gold has been raised by BDT 1,890 per bhori (11.664 grams), setting the new rate at BDT 172,126. The revised prices will take effect from Wednesday, July 2.
According to BAJUS, the price hike comes in response to rising costs of acid gold (refined gold) in the local market. The decision was made during a meeting of the BAJUS Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring, held on July 1. A press release signed by Committee Chairman Masudur Rahman confirmed the new rates.
This marks a reversal from recent trends, as gold prices were reduced twice—on June 25 and June 29. Prior to that, prices were raised in four separate instances on May 18, May 22, June 6, and June 14.
New Gold Prices (per bhori):
- 22-carat: BDT 172,126 (↑ BDT 1,890)
- 21-carat: BDT 164,299 (↑ BDT 1,796)
- 18-carat: BDT 140,831 (↑ BDT 1,540)
- Traditional gold: BDT 116,488 (↑ BDT 1,318)
Just days earlier, on June 29, the price of 22-carat gold was reduced by BDT 2,624 to BDT 170,236. Similar cuts were applied to other categories as well, with 21-carat reduced to BDT 162,503, 18-carat to BDT 139,291, and traditional gold to BDT 115,170.
Silver Prices Unchanged:
Despite the adjustment in gold rates, silver prices remain stable:
- 22-carat silver: BDT 2,811
- 21-carat silver: BDT 2,683
- 18-carat silver: BDT 2,298
- Traditional silver: BDT 1,726
BAJUS stated that the latest adjustment reflects market conditions and aims to maintain balance amid fluctuating raw material costs.
