Government to Purchase 30,000 Tonnes of Fertiliser at Tk 146.53 Crore

To meet domestic demand, the government has decided to buy 30,000 metric tonnes of bagged granular urea fertiliser. The purchase, worth Tk 146 crore 53 lakh 11 thousand, has been approved by the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP).

The approval was granted at a meeting of the committee, chaired by Economic Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, held on Tuesday (8 July) at the Cabinet Division conference room.

According to meeting sources, the Ministry of Industries proposed purchasing the fertiliser from Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited (KAFCO), Bangladesh, at a cost of Tk 146.53 crore. The committee approved the proposal, setting the price per metric tonne of urea at USD 397.75.

At the same meeting, the committee also approved a procurement proposal from the Road Transport and Highways Division. This concerns the civil works under package no. WP-03 of the project to upgrade the Satkhira–Sakhipur–Kaliganj and Kaliganj–Shyamnagar–Bhetkhali highways to appropriate standards.

The civil works tender was conducted in a single-stage, two-envelope method, attracting bids from four companies. All four bids were deemed technically responsive. Following the evaluation, the lowest responsive bidder, Md. Moinuddin (Bashi) Ltd., has been awarded the project, which will cost Tk 106 crore 88 lakh 354.

Additionally, the Power Division submitted two proposals, both of which were approved by the committee. One of these includes the purchase of works worth Tk 144 crore 94 lakh 70 thousand 27 under Lot-1, Package no. MCEP/BREB/DMD-W-2, of the project titled “Modernization and Capacity Enhancement of the Electric Distribution System of BAPBIBO (Dhaka-Mymensingh Division) – Special Revised Version.”
