The government has moved to seek Interpol Red Notices against four fugitive owners of garment factories accused of failing to ensure workers’ dues and remaining abroad for long.

The accused are Shahadat Hossain Shamim, Managing Director of TNZ Group; Ittemad Ud Doula, Chairman of Dird Group; Nabil Ud Doula, Managing Director of Dird Group; and Mamunul Islam, Managing Director of Roar Fashion Ltd.

Officials said the action follows cases filed in the Labour Court, Gazipur, and the First and Third Labour Courts in Dhaka.

Labour and Employment Adviser Brig Gen (Retd) M Shakhawat Hossain said the interim government is determined to safeguard workers’ rights.

“We will be strict with those who act unjustly towards workers. The initiative has been taken to bring the accused back to the country and ensure payment of arrears and benefits,” he told reporters.

Following a request from the Labour Ministry, a letter signed by the Additional Inspector General (NCB) of Police Headquarters has been sent to Interpol to issue Red Notices.

Chief Adviser’s Special Envoy for International Affairs Lutfey Siddiqui warned that negligence by factory owners towards workers’ legitimate rights will no longer be tolerated.

“Such actions must have consequences. I thank the Labour Adviser for his firm steps in this regard,” he said.
