Journey Outdoors Bangladesh Co. Ltd., backed by investors from Singapore and China, has become the 50th company to join the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) Economic Zone, marking a major milestone in the authority’s drive to attract foreign investment.
The company signed a lease agreement with BEPZA to set up a high-end garment and outdoor products manufacturing facility in the Mirsharai-based BEPZA Economic Zone in Chattogram. The planned investment amounts to US$ 27.57 million, with production expected to reach 16 million pieces annually, including underwear, T-shirts, jackets, ski suits, tents, and backpacks.
The project will create 3,467 jobs for local workers, contributing to employment generation and skill development in the region, according to a BEPZA press release.
The lease agreement was signed on Tuesday at BEPZA Complex in Dhaka by Md. Ashraful Kabir, Member (Investment Promotion) of BEPZA, and Han JunXiao, Managing Director of Journey Outdoors. BEPZA Executive Chairman Maj Gen Mohammad Moazzem Hossain witnessed the signing ceremony.
Expressing appreciation to Journey Outdoors for choosing BEPZA EZ, Maj Gen Moazzem Hossain reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to providing investors with world-class facilities and a secure, business-friendly environment.
With this latest addition, total proposed investment in the BEPZA Economic Zone now stands at US$ 1.11 billion from 50 companies, highlighting the zone’s growing appeal as a global manufacturing destination.
Senior BEPZA officials, including Abdullah Al Mamun, A.N.M. Foyzul Haque, Md. Khorshid Alam, Samir Biswas, and A.S.M. Anwar Parvez, were also present at the event, along with representatives from Journey Outdoors Bangladesh.
