Bangladesh and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) have signed agreements for a $5.9 million grant aimed at strengthening nursing education and research in the country.

The project, titled “Education and Research Capacity Building of National Institute of Advanced Nursing Education and Research (NIANER)”, will be implemented by the Directorate General of Nursing and Midwifery under the Medical Education and Family Welfare Division.

Mirana Mahrukh, Additional Secretary of the Economic Relations Division (ERD), and Jihoon Kim, Country Director of KOICA, signed the Record of Discussion (RoD) and Terms of Reference (ToR) on behalf of their respective sides.

The initiative seeks to develop high-quality nursing faculty through PhD and advanced training programmes at NIANER—marking the first time in Bangladesh’s history that nurses will have the opportunity to pursue doctoral degrees.
