Market Capitalization Gains Tk 10,000cr in a Week

DSE trading jumps 26%, index rises nearly 150 points

The stock market closed last week with a strong rally as the number of gainers outpaced losers by more than two and a half times, lifting both indices and market capitalization. Trading activity also picked up notably.

At the end of the week, the market capitalization of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) surged by Tk 10,175 crore (1.44%) to Tk 7,18,356 crore, compared to Tk 7,08,181 crore in the previous week. This rebound followed two consecutive weeks of decline that had wiped out Tk 6,898 crore.

Indices Rise Sharply

The DSEX, the key benchmark index, gained 142.99 points or 2.66% during the week. In the previous week, the index had inched up by just 24.71 points or 0.46%.

Among other indices:

  • DS30 Index (blue-chip companies) advanced 67.55 points or 3.23%, compared to a 15.62-point gain a week earlier.
  • DSES Index (Shariah-compliant companies) rose 26.86 points or 2.28%, after a 17.17-point increase the previous week.

Trading Volume Rises 26%

Investor participation strengthened as daily average turnover rose to Tk 1,145.91 crore, up from Tk 907.13 crore in the preceding week. This marked an increase of Tk 238.78 crore or 26.32% per session.

Top Traded Stocks

  • City Bank topped the turnover chart, with an average daily transaction of Tk 28.91 crore, accounting for 2.52% of total trade.
  • Malek Spinning followed with Tk 24.05 crore.
  • Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) ranked third with Tk 22.97 crore.

Other companies in the top-10 turnover list included Sonali Paper, Beximco Pharmaceuticals, Beacon Pharmaceuticals, Beach Hatchery, Alif Industries, Orion Infusion, and Sea Pearl Beach Resort.
