DSE Gains, CSE Slips: Markets Diverge Amid Mixed Investor Sentiment

Written by The Banking Post

The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) opened on a positive trajectory Wednesday, with the key index gaining ground in the early hours of trading, while the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) saw a modest dip, reflecting a mixed market sentiment.

By the end of the first two hours, the DSEX — the DSE’s benchmark index — had risen by 19 points. The Shariah-compliant DSES index inched up by 3 points, and the DS30, tracking blue-chip stocks, added 6 points.

Of the issues traded on the DSE, 207 advanced, 96 declined, and 86 remained unchanged. Turnover during this period reached Tk 250 crore, indicating steady investor participation.

In contrast, the CSE’s main index slipped by 7 points during the same timeframe. Of the 108 issues traded, 40 gained, 44 lost value, and 24 remained flat. Turnover on the Chattogram bourse stood at Tk 2.5 crore.

The divergence between the two major bourses suggests investors remain cautiously optimistic, with selective buying seen in key stocks on the DSE.
