NCC Bank PLC officially unveiled its first Annual Sustainability Report 2024 during an awareness program on Sustainable Finance, organized by the bank.
The report, published with a focus on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues alongside the bank’s long-term strategic goals, aims to enhance the awareness and competence of bank executives and officials in conducting sustainable banking operations.
Chowdhury Liaquat Ali, Director of the Sustainable Finance Department of Bangladesh Bank, attended the workshop as the chief discussant.
The program was presided over by M. Shamsul Arefin, Managing Director of NCC Bank. Additional Managing Director and Chief Risk Officer M. Khorshed Alam, Deputy Managing Directors Md. Mahbub Alam, Md. Zakir Anam, Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, and Md. Monirul Alam, along with members of the Management Committee, divisional heads from the head office, and around 150 executives and officers from regional offices, branches, and sub-branches participated in the event.
Also present at the discussion session were Ahmed Jubair Mahbub, Additional Director; Md. Abu Raihan, Joint Director; and Md. Abu Nayeem, Assistant Director of Bangladesh Bank’s Sustainable Finance Department; as well as Md. Khaled Hossain Khan, Managing Director of Euro Knitwear Ltd.
The event was conducted by Nighat Momtaz, Senior Vice President and Head of Sustainable Banking and Women’s Banking at NCC Bank.
As part of the awareness campaign on sustainable finance, certificates and prize money were distributed among the winners of the “NCC Green Olympiad.”
Speaking on the occasion, Chowdhury Liaquat Ali discussed in detail the current context of sustainable finance, green finance, refinancing, and environmental and social risk management, emphasizing the importance of these areas. He thanked NCC Bank authorities for publishing their first Annual Sustainability Report and arranging such an awareness-building event.
He also advised financial institutions, including banks, to be more conscious of environmental considerations while providing financing across different sectors.
In his remarks, Managing Director M. Shamsul Arefin said that NCC Bank has already secured a position among the top ten sustainable banks recognized by Bangladesh Bank. He added that the bank has been conducting its operations by giving due importance to ESG principles in line with the central bank’s guidelines.
As part of this commitment, NCC Bank has formally published its first Annual Sustainability Report 2024, which elaborately highlights the bank’s initiatives toward a sustainable future.
The report has been prepared in full compliance with national sustainability policies and internationally recognized sustainable development frameworks, ensuring the bank’s strong sustainable financial foundation, he said, expressing optimism that NCC Bank will continue to play a leading role in green financing in the future.
