Over Tk 2.56 Trillion in Remittance Sent in Just 27 Days

In the first 27 days of July alone, Bangladeshi expatriates living abroad have sent over 2 billion US dollars in remittance. According to data, a total of $2.099 billion has been received so far this month. Based on an exchange rate of Tk 122 per dollar, this amounts to approximately Tk 25,607.80 crore. Of this, $167 million, or Tk 2,037.40 crore, came in just yesterday (Sunday).

The information was confirmed by Arif Hossain Khan, Executive Director and Spokesperson of Bangladesh Bank.

According to central bank data, the country received $2.099 billion in remittance in the first 27 days of July. In comparison, $1.572 billion was received during the same period last year (first 27 days of July 2024). This marks an increase of $527 million, which is approximately Tk 6,429.40 crore more than the same period last year.

Earlier, in June, the final month of the recently concluded 2024–25 fiscal year, expatriate Bangladeshis sent nearly $2.818 billion in remittance through banking channels. In local currency, this amounts to over Tk 34,404 crore. On average, this means the country received about $94 million or Tk 1,147 crore per day.

This was the third-highest monthly remittance ever recorded. In May, Bangladesh received $2.97 billion in remittance, the second-highest in history. The highest monthly remittance was recorded in March, at $3.29 billion.

Meanwhile, during the full 2024–25 fiscal year (July to June), Bangladesh received a total of $30.33 billion in remittance. This is a 26.8% increase compared to the same period in the 2023–24 fiscal year, when remittance stood at $23.91 billion.
