Bangladesh Bank has reminded citizens and businesses that refusing Tk1 and Tk2 coins in cash transactions is illegal, as all metal coins currently in circulation remain legal tender.

In a statement issued on Wednesday (15 October), the central bank’s Department of Communications and Publications urged everyone to continue using the small-denomination coins in daily transactions.

The clarification came after reports that people in some areas were reluctant to accept Tk1 and Tk2 coins.

Bangladesh Bank reiterated that metal coins hold the same value and validity as paper notes, and any refusal to accept them violates existing monetary laws.
